The Scottish Dark Sky observatory is situated close to Loch Doon, off the A713, near Dalmellington.
The observatory is in a remote location and the road for the last approximate 1.5 miles is not finished to normal tarmac road standards. Being a forestry type track it is rough and steep in places, but it is easily passable in a standard car driving slowly and carefully. We remind visitors that all vehicles are brought on to the Observatory site at their own risk.
Upon booking we will provide you with a booking confirmation by e-mail, which includes detailed directions to reach the Observatory (if you don’t see your booking confirmation e-mail including driving directions in your inbox please check your junkmail folder), and there are SDSO signs along the route to help guide you.
Please DO NOT try to find us using a postcode, Google Maps or using SatNav as it does not bring you to our location. Please refer to the detailed directions on your booking confirmation e-mail.
